“Adopt an outreach project”
As part of the HEPEX outreach acitivities, we have recently re-designed the HEPEX portal and have set up a HEPEX mailing list. There are additional activities that can be very useful to the HEPEX community, and we’re looking for volunteers to ‘adopt’ these projects. Current ideas include:
- a paper.li on hydrologic forecasting (see below);
- bringing to life a Twitter account;
- updating the presence on Wikipedia.org;
- editing a periodical HEPEX newsletter
- … other ideas ??
Additional ideas are more than welcome and don’t hesitate to contact us if you’re interested in adopting a project!
A HEPEX paper.li?
There are many publications and news items on hydrological forecasting. No single week goes by in which there is not an important newsworthy hydrological event. Internet technology allows to gather many news feeds and display them online. One of these services is Paper.li which is a “content curation service”. It enables people to publish newspapers based on topics they like and treat their readers to fresh news, daily.
This technology has been already successfully used in projects such as the Global Water Scarcity Information Service (http://paper.li/glowasis/1292484802) and has potential to be used in HEPEX.
We are looking for a volunteer who would be interested in taking the responsibility for providing such a service to the HEPEX community. Please email us if you are interested.

This post generated additional ideas that could benefit the community. In no particular order:
(1) Compiling and publishing a selection of benchmark papers on HEPEX-related science that would benefit both practitioners and scientists;
(2) Compiling an overview of recent, ongoing and future research projects related to HEPEX topics;
(3) Creating an overview of upcoming meetings, either by maintaining a HEPEX calendar or otherwise.
In the meantime, Jean-François Vuillaume (United Nations University, Japan) has taken the lead in setting up a HEPEX daily using paper.li.
Additional suggestions and volunteers both still equally welcome!
