Meet HEPEX Columnists for 2015

New colleagues have kindly accepted to be Guest Columnists for 2015.

Here below the profiles of the Guest Columnists for 2015:

Zappa

Massimiliano Zappa

Massimiliano Zappa is a hydrologist, working on operational flood forecast systems and process-related catchment hydrology. He joined the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) in 2003, where he started carrying out applied research for operational flood warning systems, including systems for the Three Gorges Dam Reservoir (PR China), the Swiss Canton of Glarus, and the City of Zürich.

Since 2006, he is head of the ‘Hydrological Forecasts’ group. He is also lecturer at the ETH of Zürich and at the University of Zürich. Since 2008, he is also responsible for the “IFKIS-Sihl” operational service on real-time flood forecasting system for Zürich Central Station. You can visit his site here.

Marie-Amelie-Boucher

Marie-Amélie Boucher

Marie-Amélie Boucher is a hydrologist. She has been working as a professor at the Applied Sciences Department at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC) since 2011.

Her main research topics are hydrologic ensemble prediction, post-processing of forecasts, risk-based decision making and the economic value of forecasts. She is also interested in snowmelt modelling and forecasting. More info can be found in her site here.

 

Andrea-Holz

Andrea Holz

Andrea Holz is a Senior Hydrologic Forecaster at the NOAA/NWS North Central River Forecast Center in Chanhassen, Minnesota.  She has been the lead forecaster for the Red River of the North, the Mississippi River, and has forecasted numerous record flood events throughout the Midwest since she started her career in 1998.

Andrea is an NCRFC focal point for the Ensemble Forecast Services, including ESP and HEFS, and for the Community Hydrologic Prediction System (CHPS).  She earned her undergraduate degree in Forest Hydrology from the University of Minnesota.

Jan Danhelka

Jan Danhelka is a hydrologist and operational forecaster at the Czech Hydrometeorological Institut. He has a Master degree in physical geography and a Ph.D. in hydrology at Faculty of Nature Sciences of Charles University in Prague. He worked in the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute from 1999 to 2004 as Hydrologist at the Department of Applied Hydrological Research and as Head of the Department of Hydrological Forecasting until 2010. Since 2010, Jan is the Vice Director for Hydrology at Czech Hydrometeorological Institute and, since 2004, lecturer at the Faculty of Nature Sciences at Charles University.

Jan is also Member of the Task Teams on Flood Forecasting and Warning RA VI and on Hydrometeorological Warning Systems of the Working Groups on Climate & Hydrology of WMO RA VI. He was designated as Hydrological Advisor of the Czech Republic with WMO in 2010 and is Member of Czech National Commission for UNESCO since 2011.
