Forecasting session at AOGS 2020 – Hongcheon, South Korea

This year, the 17th Annual Meeting of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society will be held in Hongcheon, South Korea from 28 June to 4 July 2020, and will include a session organised under the auspices of HEPEX.
This session aims to discuss recent developments in methods for ensemble hydro-meteorological forecasting and the challenges in the application of forecasts for real-world water resources planning and management. The session has a broad scope and seeks to bring together researchers and practitioners undertaking hydro-meteorological forecasting related works in any of the following but not limited to:
- Real time flood and high flow forecasting techniques
- Challenges in sub-seasonal to seasonal hydro-meteorological forecasts
- Evaluation of advantages in ensemble hydro-meteorological forecasts
- Methods for pre-processing atmospheric predictions for hydrological applications including spatio-temporal downscaling
- Methods for estimating and reducing hydrologic predictive uncertainty including multi-model combination, data assimilation and post processing
- Integration of multi-scale forecasts into streamflow forecasting
- Application of forecast information for water resources management including development and optimisation of simulation and modelling system
- Quantifying predictive uncertainty and developing risk-based decision support systems for emergence management
The Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) was established in 2003 to promote geosciences and its application for the benefit of humanity, specifically in Asia and Oceania and with an overarching approach to global issues. The Asia-Oceania region is particularly vulnerable to natural hazards, accounting for almost 80% human lives lost globally. AOGS is deeply involved in addressing hazard related issues through improving our understanding of the genesis of hazards through scientific, social and technical approaches.
AOGS holds annual conventions providing opportunity for exchanging scientific knowledge and discussion to address important geo-scientific issues among academia, research institutions and the public.
