Hydrological Forecasting at EGU 2019 – What not to miss!

The EGU 2019 Annual General Assembly will take place from 7–12 April 2017 in Vienna. If you are planning to go and want to meet HEPEX people, here are some tips on the sessions that might interest you. If unfortunately you cannot be there this year, you can browse the programme of these sessions following the links below and learn more about the different work that’s going to be presented.

The sessions of the sub-division on Hydrological Forecasting focus on the following topics:

• Forecasting hydrological extremes: (flash) floods, droughts and water scarcity
• Improving and quantifying forecasting methodologies and uncertainties
• Operational and impact forecasting, preparedness and decision making

They start on Tuesday 9 April, but if you are already at EGU on Monday, you may want to check this Great Debate on Science & Policy:

The social HEPEX evening will be again a joint event with the IMPREX project. It is scheduled for Thursday (11 April) at 19.30 at the Melker Stiftskeller (Schottengasse 3, 1010 Wien, Austria) restaurant. If you want to join it, please register here before Wednesday 3 April. The reservation is for 50 people, so “first-come first-served”!

Tuesday will be a busy day for hydrological forecasting!

Upon arrival, you can go directly to the poster Hall A, where the posters of the HEPEX session will be displayed. If you want to meet the authors, the attendance time will be running from 8:30 to 10:15. Two oral sessions will then  be held in Room 2.31 and more posters in Hall A, until 18:00 (see below).

We also have the Hydrological Sciences Business meeting and the Dalton Medal Lecture, both in Room B, at 12:45 and 19:00, respectively.

On Wednesday, let’s talk about drought, water scarcity and science-policy interface!

The “drought” session starts early in the morning with oral presentations up to lunch time. Their poster attendance time will be in the afternoon.

On the same day, the HS Division is organizing for the first time a session on “science-policy interface in hydrology”, convened by two ex-HEPEX chairs, Maria-Helena Ramos and Jutta Thielen-del Pozo, together with Wouter Buytaert and Elena Toth. On the same topic, a workshop is organized for Early Career Scientists on Tuesday afternoon (see details here).

The HS Division Outstanding ECS Lecture will be awarded to Serena Ceola at 14:00, and at the end of the day, you can join the colleagues for the meeting of the Sub-Division on Hydrological Forecasting, on the 3rd floor of the conference centre.
